‘The Bannen Way’ Opens Wide on Crackle, PlayStation, Bravia TVs

Today The Bannen Way rolled out with a wide release today of its first four episodes across a number of distribution outlets including Sony’s online video network Crackle, on its gaming system through the PlayStation Store and through internet-enabled Sony BRAVIA TVs. Though three episodes were released early to US viewers on Crackle last week, presumably for awards consideration, the wider release is the first that has synced up all three of its broadband outlets—web site, gaming consoles, and Sony’s built-in internet video network on its new TVs.

The Bannen Way has now released 11 of its 16 episodes in its debut season on Crackle, and we have some more video extras from the series. Above is a behind the scenes segment from creators Mark Gantt and Jesse Warren along with producer Bailey Williams on creating the celebrated ‘Bannen Style.’

Neal Bannen wants to get out of the criminal lifestyle forever… but he owes $150,000 to the notorious prison gangster Sonny Carr. After failing to triple his money and losing all his money in a poker game, Bannen’s forced to do one more job.

Updated with comment from Crackle: For a few months now, plenty of buzz has been circulating about the Crackle-produced The Bannen Way, a gritty noir web series created by Mark Gantt and Jesse Warren that was set to launch on Jan. 6 (a date proudly plastered on the official site). That’s a pretty easy date to remember — the first week in January. So color me surprised when today I got a tip that the first three episodes of the series were live on Sony’s web video portal.

Yet budding filmmakers Jesse Warren and Mark Gantt managed to hire 40-odd staff, including a boom operator, camerapeople — yes, more than one — and even production assistants on hand to offer sunscreen and sandwiches…

The Offer
Bannen successfully pulls off the “Loft Job” with a $100,000 payday, only to be tracked down by his former employer, the mobster, Mr. B. He offers Bannen a million dollars to retrieve a mysterious box that the was stolen from him.
