At first look, it might seem strange that a celebration is scheduled for Tax Day, which still in times of economic hardship would seem like a time to reflect on where one went wrong. After all, celebrations are rewards, aren’t they? We’re not paying anything (bar tabs aside).
Tonight, though, we’re paying our Respect Tax. To the web, to ourselves, to each other.
I’m not going to get sappy – partially because as I write this a raging of a hangover is on the horizon (look for that as a metaphor later in this piece!). However, in her acceptance speech at the Celebrate the Web, post-Streamys gathering, Felicia Day said, “We want to be authentic to ourselves,” as why we work on the web. So I’m going to pound a Red Bull and write this with the honesty it deserves.
The Bannen Way nominated for Best Drama & Best Editing while Vanessa Marcil Honoree for Best Female Actress
If the Web 2.0 revolution has shown us anything, it’s that the Internet is a proven star-making invention. While Hollywood still produces it’s fair share of blockbusters, the Internet is an increasingly reliable source of quality online content. All of the Online Film & Video Winners, Nominees and Honorees have premiered their work online and are one step closer to stardom.

CULVER CITY, Calif., April 12 /PRNewswire/ — THE BANNEN WAY, the sexy, fast-paced web series from Crackle, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s online video network, garnered the most wins of any nominated network or production company at the 2nd Annual Streamy Awards, which honor excellence in original web television programming. THE BANNEN WAY won a total of four awards, including “Best Drama Web Series,” emerging as the most honored program for the evening.
Winners were announced by the International Academy of Web Television on Sunday, April 11th at a ceremony held at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.

A major shout out to the peeps behind Crackle.com‘s game changing web series The Bannen Way. The sexy, serialized drama about Neil Bannen (Mark Gantt), a thief caught between the mob, the cops and a hard on, cleaned up at the 2nd Annual Streamy Awards Sunday night!
The Bannen Way took home the awards for Best Web Drama (Gantt and Jesse Warren), Best Directing for a Drama Web Series (Warren), Best Male Actor in a Web Drama (Gantt) and, as previously reported, Best Editing for a Web Series (Zach Arnold). The Bannen Way boasted several soapy names in its cast, including General Hospital alum Vanessa Marcil as Bannen’s partner-in-crime—not to mention sex— Madison; One Life to Live‘s Brynn Thayer, who appeared as the ghost of Bannen’s mom and The O.C.’s Autmn Reeser (aka Mrs. Jesse Warren), as one of a trio of badass, nymphette assassins hunting Bannen.

Rampant, unbleeped expletives. Winners who wondered what was going on. A host who said the gig was good practice for his next job, “hosting the trainwreck awards.” And not one streaker, but two.
The 2nd annual Streamy Awards, which took place Sunday night at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Los Angeles, were a wild, rough, disorganized and freewheeling antidote to usual award-show decorum, as befits an awards show devoted to web-only television programming, ranging from professional productions to bargain-basement DIY shows.
